Enderbeam for Discord — terms

1. What this covers

These terms are for the Enderbeam Discord bot — adding it to a Discord server, and what it does once it is there. Everything else about Enderbeam is at enderbeam.com/terms, which these sit under rather than replace. Where the two could be read differently, the main agreement wins.

The bot is free and comes with a community website. It is not sold separately and there is nothing to pay for here.

2. Adding it, and who may

Discord only offers the bot to someone holding Manage Server in that server, which is its way of asking whether you are entitled to make this decision. We take that answer as the answer.

Connecting also links that Discord server to one Enderbeam project, and one to one: a Discord server cannot be connected to two projects, and a project cannot be connected to two Discord servers. If you connect a server that is already connected elsewhere, the old link is replaced rather than duplicated.

You can remove the bot at any time, from your own server settings, without telling us and without it affecting your website.

3. Roles are permissions, and they are yours to choose

If you point an Enderbeam rank at a Discord role, everybody who holds that rank on your website gets that role in your Discord server, automatically, including people who earn it later.

A Discord role is not a badge. It can carry the ability to delete messages, ban members, mention everyone, see private channels, or manage the server itself. Whether it does is decided by your server's settings, not by ours, and we cannot tell whether the role you picked is decorative or dangerous.

So check what the role you are mapping actually grants, before you map it. Discord gives you one real guardrail here and it is worth knowing: a bot can only manage roles below its own in the list. Leaving the Enderbeam role near the bottom of your role list limits what it is capable of handing out, whatever anybody configures.

Roles the bot grants are ours to take back when the rank changes. Roles you gave out by hand are not touched.

4. What it will and will not do

It will read your channel and role lists so they can be offered in menus, show your member and online counts on your site, keep mapped roles in step with ranks, and answer the leaderboard command. That is the whole list.

It will not read your messages, message your members privately, or mention everyone. It does not ask for Read Message History when you add it, so Discord will not give it your messages even if something went wrong at our end — see enderbeam.com/discord-privacy.

It asks for permission to send messages and embed links when you add it. Today it uses neither: a slash command is answered through Discord’s own reply mechanism, which does not need them. They are there for forwarding your website’s news posts into a channel you choose, which is not built yet. Discord fixes a bot’s permissions when it joins and gives no way to add one later, so asking now is what stops you having to re-add the bot when it arrives. Until then nothing is posted unprompted.

Leaderboards shown in Discord follow the same consent rules as the website. A player who opted out is not listed in either place.

5. Availability

It is one bot shared by every community that uses Enderbeam, and Discord rate-limits what any one application may do. In practice that means a role change can take a moment to appear, and during a Discord outage it will take longer or not happen until things recover.

We may change what the bot does, add commands, or take it offline for maintenance. Where a change would remove something you rely on, we will say so before it happens rather than after.

Nothing here is promised to be uninterrupted or error-free. The warranties and limits in the main terms apply, and this paragraph does not add new ones or take any away.

6. Ending it

Remove the bot from your Discord server whenever you like. Roles it granted stay where they are — removing the bot does not strip your members of anything — and the connection on your site stops working until you connect again.

We may remove the bot from a server being used to break the acceptable use policy at enderbeam.com/acceptable-use, or where we are legally required to. Where it is safe and lawful to tell you first, we will.
